A Kind Of A Mission Statement
Fludded is a space to pontificate on producing, writing, loin-girding and just about everything and anything to do with the film, TV and the online streaming world. We try and do it with a twist of humour, but sadly can’t guarentee it due to limited talents in those areas.
I am the guy grinding the gears and shoveling coal in the burning furnace of news, views and whatever we choose – Fluctibus Fludd.
We all know that in order to get any where in anything one has to have an audience. But you won’t have an audience unless you have something interesting for that audience to be interested in.
So what have I got that could possibly be of any interest to anybody in their right mind? Through my YouTube channel, the podcast, this website and future writing I hope to explore whether I have anything interesting anyone could potentially give a hoot about.
My plan is that I build an audience made entirely of you. It really is all about you. I’m not going to lie and pretend I know any of you individually, but depending on how this whole story is engaged with, I do hope to forge a strong relationship with people outside of the swamp of toxic comments in YouTube channels and Reddit. This will probably exist on a sensible platform like Patreon or similar…. I dunno yet.
So who am I? I work in television as a producer and director, and more recently as a self-shooting producer and director, and I hope after 30 years working in the industry I have a perspective and experience that some of you may find interesting or useful. Of course some of you may not, in which case I’m going to have to work particularly hard and may even go to the extremes of, metaphorically of course, rolling you over and rubbing your belly and whispering sweet nothings in your ear until you comply.
The thing is … the industry, from a technical side, can be a little bit dull and we are only interesting in the exciting stuff! To be perfectly honest I have no interest in talking about cameras, or lights or focal distances. I am one of these old-fashioned guys who believes photography is best left to photographers, sound recording to sound recordists and camera operation to… well, you get the idea. No. I am interested in sharing all the experiences I’ve had as a TV director – from the disagreements directing James Cordon to the flatulence of Pavarotti to the flirtings of Stephen Fry.
So, the medium amount of information I have I am more than happy to impart; But I do like to entertain the idea I know what I’m talking about when it comes to directing talent, scripting, producing, understanding the industry and its consumers. There are many traps and hurdles I can help others falling victim to – I’m sure.
If I had known half the information I know now when I was a twenty-something Assistant Producer at BBC Television Centre in the 90’s I would have got an awful lot further, an awful a lot sooner.
Join me on Twitter, YouTube, Fludded.com and on Facebook. Get involved – I might say something you find useful.
Q: Is that your real name?
A: Nope. Of course not. You fool.
I hide my real name as often as I can. I don’t particulaly mind it getting out, but I think in a world where many delight in doxing or dragging you thorough social media with the sole intention of trolling you – its a good idea for everyone to hide behind an online name. I nicked it from the 16th century occult nutter Robert Fludd who was also known as Robertus de Fluctibus.
For now I use the name Fluctibus Fludd – but you can call me Fludd or Mr. Fludd or Fluctibus or Sexy Boy… any of them will do.
